Benton County lieutenant urges caution as rain slickens roads

Lt. Stewart in Benton County urged drivers to use caution as rain makes roadways slick, saying the conditions are creating hazardous travel in parts of North Mississippi. The advisory appeared in a Facebook reel and urged motorists to slow down and drive safely.

The post also said crews are still working to restore services in parts of North Mississippi. Benton County is in northern Mississippi, and travel can become dangerous quickly when pavement is wet or when visibility is reduced by rain.

Wet roads increase stopping distances and raise the risk of skidding or hydroplaning. Traffic safety experts advise drivers to reduce speed, increase following distance, avoid sudden braking and ensure headlights are on when visibility is poor.

This advisory underscores how routine weather can affect public safety and essential services. We will provide more information as it becomes available.
