Authorities arrest man accused of choking 67-year-old after Adams County break-in

A 32-year-old man is jailed after deputies say he forced his way into an Adams County home early Wednesday, threatened a resident with a knife and assaulted the homeowner, the Adams County Sheriff’s Office said. Deputies responded about 6:20 a.m. April 1 to a disturbance at 109 B Kaiser Lake Road, the office said.

Investigators said Charles Michael Nettles unlawfully entered the house by forcing open the back door. Once inside, Nettles allegedly armed himself with a kitchen knife and threatened a woman in the home, attempting to approach her with the weapon, the sheriff’s office said.

The woman locked herself in a bedroom and contacted the homeowner, deputies said. When the 67-year-old homeowner returned, he encountered Nettles and a confrontation followed. Investigators said Nettles attacked the homeowner by choking him and causing visible cuts and bruises. Nettles was taken into custody and charged with one count of home invasion and two counts of aggravated assault.

Sheriff Travis Patten praised deputies and investigators for their quick response and investigative work, the sheriff’s office said. Further investigation revealed Nettles has an active felony bond jumping warrant out of Tulsa, Oklahoma; the warrant was confirmed with the Tulsa Police Department, which does not plan to seek extradition at this time, the office said. Nettles remains jailed at the Adams County Detention Center. This is a developing story and will be updated as more details emerge.
