17-year-old arrested in fatal Cooper Road shooting in Jackson

JACKSON — A 17-year-old has been arrested and charged with murder in connection with a fatal shooting April 3 on Cooper Road, authorities said.

Siyaski Crawford was taken into custody Sunday and charged in the death of 33-year-old Leonard Banks, who was shot in the 500 block of Cooper Road, authorities said.

Officers with the Jackson Police Department responded around 7:56 p.m. to a reported shooting at a business on Cooper Road, authorities said. Upon arrival, they found Banks lying on the sidewalk in front of the store with a gunshot wound. He was pronounced dead at the scene, and his next of kin has been notified, authorities said.

Crawford was booked into city holding and is awaiting an initial appearance in Municipal Court, authorities said. Detectives are continuing to work to determine any additional suspects and to establish a motive.
