13-year-old turns himself in after Lewis Circle shooting; 16-year-old wounded
Police said a 13-year-old turned himself in Wednesday evening after a shooting on Lewis Circle that left a 16-year-old wounded.
Officers were dispatched at about 1:54 p.m., police said. While they were en route, the 16-year-old victim was taken to Highland Community Hospital by a personal vehicle. The victim was struck once; police said the wound is serious but does not appear to be life-threatening.
The suspect is wanted for aggravated assault and, police said, will be charged as an adult. His name is being withheld pending arrest, police added. Authorities said the case is under investigation and that multiple rounds were fired by both the victim and the suspect, with the suspect firing first.
Police said they were thankful no one else was harmed. Charging juveniles as adults is permitted in many jurisdictions for serious violent offenses. We will provide more information as it becomes available.
