UMMC works with federal authorities after cyberattack, cancels clinics
The University of Mississippi Medical Center (UMMC) said it is working with federal authorities and national cyberattack response experts as it assesses the scope of a cyberattack that has disrupted operations statewide.
UMMC said in a Facebook post that it expects the disruption to be a multi-day event and will communicate helpful information as it becomes available. Hospitals and emergency departments are to remain open for the duration of the incident unless the center communicates otherwise.
All UMMC clinics statewide will be closed Friday, Feb. 20, and elective procedures have been canceled; appointments will be rescheduled, the post said. One exception is the dialysis clinic at the Jackson Medical Mall, which UMMC said is operational and open for scheduled appointments.
UMMC said in-person classes will continue as scheduled, but online classes are canceled for Friday. The center apologized for the disruption and said it is working to restore systems and services as quickly as possible.
This is a developing story and will be updated as more details emerge.
