UMMC reaches $100 million toward cancer center, research institute goal
The University of Mississippi Medical Center said it has reached $100 million toward a $125 million goal to build a Cancer Center and Research Institute and has entered the public phase of the campaign.
UMMC, the state’s academic medical center based in Jackson, provides clinical care, medical education and biomedical research across Mississippi. The announcement follows years of planning and private fundraising efforts to expand the center’s capacity for cancer treatment and scientific study.
Officials said the project is intended to bring more advanced cancer care and research closer to patients in the state by concentrating clinical services, diagnostics and research activity in a single facility. Cancer centers and research institutes typically support multidisciplinary care teams and clinical trials that can offer new treatment options.
With $25 million remaining to meet the campaign target, the public phase will solicit broader community and philanthropic support. UMMC said completing the fundraising will allow work to proceed on facility development and program expansion that leaders say will benefit patients, clinicians and researchers across the region.
We will provide more information as it becomes available.
