UMMC department marks 70 years decoding disease at molecular level

A department at the University of Mississippi Medical Center is marking 70 years of work decoding disease at the molecular level, UMMC said in a news post linked from its social media page.

UMMC said the department’s work began with early National Institutes of Health grants and now spans advances in cancer biology, genomics and precision medicine. The university said the department’s research and leadership have had an impact that stretches beyond Mississippi.

The University of Mississippi Medical Center is the state’s academic medical center and conducts research, trains health professionals and provides clinical care. Research in molecular biology and genomics has broadly influenced how diseases are diagnosed, how treatments are developed and how therapies can be tailored to individual patients.

UMMC’s account highlights the people, science and leadership behind the department’s legacy and notes ongoing work that contributes to national and international research efforts. We will provide more information as it becomes available.
