UMMC clinics reopen, resume normal operations after cyberattack
JACKSON — Clinics at the University of Mississippi Medical Center reopened Monday and resumed normal operations and appointment schedules after a cyberattack disrupted network systems Feb. 19, officials said.
UMMC announced all clinics returned to regular hours and that staff will begin rescheduling patient appointments canceled after the attack. Officials said clinics will offer extended hours and additional days in the coming weeks to accommodate as many impacted patients as possible.
“It will take some time to fully recover and to investigate this criminal attack on our network systems. This was not just an attack on UMMC; it was also an attack on our patients, students, faculty and staff,” said Dr. LouAnn Woodward, vice chancellor for health affairs. “Thank you to our patients and their families for their patience as we worked diligently to restore access to the services that they need.”
Patients regained access to MyChart accounts over the weekend after the electronic health record system came back online Saturday. With phone lines and internet service restored, UMMC has also resumed regular patient call center operations. The UMMC Triage Line will remain open for a few days this week before calls transition back to the staffed call center; patients with time-sensitive needs can call 601-815-0000.
Hospital officials said recovery efforts and an investigation into the cyberattack are ongoing as they work to fully restore all systems. We will provide more information as it becomes available.
