UMMC clinics remain closed Monday, Tuesday

JACKSON, Mississippi — University of Mississippi Medical Center clinics will remain closed statewide Monday and Tuesday as the Medical Center continues to respond to a Feb. 19 cyberattack, officials said.

UMMC teams are working alongside federal and state agencies and national cybersecurity experts to investigate and contain the intrusion, the Medical Center said. Phone systems and the ability to receive or send emails remain down or unreliable.

Emergency departments and hospitals in Jackson, Madison County, Grenada and Holmes County remain open and are caring for patients, UMMC said. The center said it is actively working on a solution for patients who need to contact providers for routine medical or medication needs and has contacted patients receiving ongoing, time-sensitive care to arrange treatment.

“Our care teams continue to provide exceptional service to our patients and families. I know this intrusion into our system has negatively impacted some of our patients, but please know that we are using every resource at our disposal to resolve this issue in a safe and effective manner,” Dr. LouAnn Woodward, vice chancellor for health affairs, said.

Cyberattacks on health systems can disrupt operations and patient communication, creating logistical challenges for care. UMMC said it will provide more information as it becomes available.
