UMMC ACT Center offers free tobacco treatment to Mississippi families
Nicotine addiction affects thousands of Mississippi families each year, and the University of Mississippi Medical Center’s ACT Center is offering free tobacco treatment to help, UMMC said in a Facebook post.
The center provides services that include one-on-one counseling and nicotine replacement therapy at no cost to patients, the post says. The UMMC news page linked in the post invites residents to learn how the program helps patients quit for good.
UMMC operates clinical and public health programs across the state and has made tobacco treatment one of its outreach priorities, the post indicates. Tobacco cessation programs typically combine counseling, medication and follow-up to improve chances of long-term quitting.
Health experts generally say quitting tobacco reduces the risk of chronic disease and improves overall health, making treatment programs an important public-health tool. The UMMC post directs people to its news page for more information about enrollment and services.
We will provide more information as it becomes available.
