Run the Rainbow medal designed by 9-year-old patient supports Children’s of Mississippi
Every step of the Run the Rainbow race helps support Children’s of Mississippi, the state’s only children’s hospital, and this year’s giant, colorful finisher medal reflects that mission, race organizers said on Facebook.
The medal was designed by Owen Overby of Flowood, now 9 years old, who was hospitalized as an infant with viral meningitis, organizers said. The design, they said, celebrates hope, healing and every child who has received care at the hospital.
Children’s of Mississippi provides pediatric medical services to families across the state, and community events such as Run the Rainbow raise funds and awareness to support patient care and family resources, organizers said. The race has become a visible way for residents to show support for the hospital and its patients.
The medal and race illustrate how patient stories and community fundraising intersect to benefit children and families statewide. We will provide more information as it becomes available.
