Health organization evaluates cyberattack; hospitals use downtime procedures
A health care organization said Feb. 19 it is evaluating the impact of a cyberattack on its network systems and has shut down those systems as a precaution, according to a post on its Facebook page at 12:30 p.m.
All hospitals and Emergency Departments operated normally using established downtime procedures, the post said. Clinics statewide were closed for the day and scheduled appointments will be rescheduled, the organization added.
The organization said it activated its Emergency Operations Plan and is working with authorities, including the FBI and the Department of Homeland Security, to assess the situation and determine next steps. Officials said they are still evaluating the extent of systems affected and will conduct risk assessments before restoring services.
In-person class schedules were reported to remain normal. Cyberattacks on health systems can interrupt access to electronic records, scheduling and routine care, prompting many providers to use manual procedures until systems are verified safe.
The post said more information will be provided as it becomes available.
