Mississippi opts into federal tax credit scholarship program
Mississippi has opted into the Federal Tax Credit Scholarship Program to expand school choice, the author of a Facebook post said. “I’ve opted Mississippi into the Federal Tax Credit Scholarship Program to promote school choice in our state,” the post said.
The post said Mississippi believes “that parents – not government – know what’s best for their children’s education.” It added that the program “will help Mississippi continue its historic performance in classrooms across the state and further empower parents to do what’s best for their children.” The post also thanked President Donald J. Trump and his administration for “continuing to put parents and students first.”
Federal tax credit scholarship programs generally aim to encourage private donations to scholarship organizations that help families cover private school tuition or other educational expenses. Supporters say such programs expand parental choice and education options, while critics contend they can draw funding and attention away from public schools.
Officials did not provide additional implementation details in the post. We will provide more information as it becomes available.
