British Consul General visits Mississippi State campus

STARKVILLE, Mississippi — British Consul General to the Southeast United States Rachel Galloway visited Mississippi State on Thursday for a discussion with university President Mark E. Keenum on leadership and U.K.-U.S. cultural and educational connections, the university said.

Galloway’s visit included tours of the Ulysses S. Grant Presidential Library, the Raspet Flight Research Laboratory and the Advanced Composites Institute, and concluded with meetings with leaders of several of the state’s aerospace and defense companies, Mississippi State said.

She also took part in a Shackouls Honors College Lunch and Learn where she highlighted the Marshall Scholarship. Mississippi State said the program pays for up to 50 American graduate students each year to study at a U.K. university.

Mississippi State noted that Madison Brode, a 2024 biological sciences graduate from Memphis, Tennessee, became the university’s first Marshall recipient in 2023. The honors college provides pathways for global study, leadership and service, and the university’s Office of Prestigious External Scholarships assists students applying for competitive scholarships and fellowships.

A former ambassador to the Republic of North Macedonia, Galloway began serving as consul general in Atlanta in 2022. Mississippi State said she is one of seven U.K. consuls general in the United States, not including the embassy in Washington, D.C.

This is a developing story and will be updated as more details emerge.
