Mississippi gets $135M for storm recovery

Aug. 11, 2025 – Mississippi will receive $134.95 million in federal disaster recovery funds to help rebuild from 2023 and 2024 storms after HUD approved the state’s action plan.

The money, through HUD’s Community Development Block Grant–Disaster Recovery program, will aid communities in Hinds, Humphreys, Jackson, Monroe, Scott and Sharkey counties, including Amory, Belzoni, Moss Point and Silver City.

Key allocations include $29.3 million for owner-occupied housing repairs, $19.6 million for affordable rentals, $38 million for infrastructure, $21.7 million for economic revitalization and $17.6 million for mitigation projects.

Gov. Tate Reeves said the funds will “help our friends and neighbors rebuild while strengthening their resilience.” HUD Secretary Scott Turner said the agency will work with the state to ensure recovery support.

The Mississippi Development Authority will begin programs once the grant agreement is signed, expected within 30 days.
