VPD staff view Flock camera system at Greenville Police Department

Greenville Police Department Chief Marcus Turner and his administrative team welcomed VPD staff Monday for a demonstration of the department’s Flock camera system, VPD said in a Facebook post.

The post said the agencies used the visit to connect, exchange ideas and learn from one another. It added that building strong professional relationships and open lines of communication between agencies is essential to enhancing public safety and supporting communities.

Flock camera systems, produced by Flock Safety and other vendors, are commonly used by law enforcement to capture vehicle and video data that agencies say can help investigators identify suspects, track vehicles and solve crimes. Police departments across the country have adopted such systems in recent years as part of broader efforts to deter crime and improve investigative capabilities.

Use of automated license plate readers and neighborhood camera networks also has prompted public discussion about privacy and data retention policies, and officials often cite the need to balance public-safety benefits with community concerns. We will provide more information as it becomes available.
