Toppers split doubleheader, rout Rust in nightcap

BLUE MOUNTAIN, Miss. — Blue Mountain Christian split a home doubleheader Tuesday at Topper Field, losing the opener 10-4 to Rust before routing the same opponent 16-0 in a five-inning nightcap.

In the opener, the Toppers collected nine hits and showed steady offense. Ross Polizzi had three hits and three runs, Trace Roy had two hits and two RBIs and Garret Lance hit a solo home run. Cody Pressly added two hits, but Rust capitalized in key innings and finished with 12 hits to secure the 10-4 victory, Blue Mountain Christian said.

The nightcap was sharply different. Blue Mountain Christian erupted for a 16-0, five-inning run-rule win, scoring in four of five innings and breaking the game open with an explosive fifth inning. Cody Pressly delivered a historic performance, hitting three home runs and driving in five RBIs. Polizzi added a home run and two RBIs, and Reise Thomas had two hits and scored three times. Jarret Morris and Spencer Wilson also contributed offensively, the school said.

On the mound, JD Klug was dominant, striking out 12 and allowing just four hits in a complete-game shutout. After a competitive opener, the Toppers showed resilience, combining timely hitting and strong pitching. Blue Mountain Christian plays at Williams Baptist College in Ark. on Feb. 12 at 12:00 p.m. We will provide more information as it becomes available.
