Oxford Police Department holds free women’s self-defense class Tuesday

The Oxford Police Department is holding a free women’s self-defense class on Tuesday, March 17, at 6:00 p.m. in the OPD training room at the police department, the department said in a Facebook post.

The department said the session will focus on practical, real-world techniques emphasizing awareness, confidence and personal safety. The class is free to attend and requires no registration. Organizers noted the session will go on despite St. Patrick’s Day and encouraged participants to wear green if they wish.

Self-defense classes like this one aim to provide participants with situational awareness, de-escalation strategies and basic defensive movements to help reduce risk in everyday settings. Police departments and community organizations often offer similar programs as part of outreach efforts to improve public safety and empower residents.

Attendees should arrive prepared to be active and wear comfortable clothing. The department posted the announcement on its Facebook page with hashtags including #CommunitySafety and #WomensSelfDefense. We will provide more information as it becomes available.
