Facebook shows message when content restricted or deleted

Facebook displays a standard notice when a piece of content is not available to a viewer, saying the owner may have shared it with a small group, changed who can see it or deleted it.

The brief message appears across the platform when content cannot be loaded for any of those reasons. Facebook is part of Meta Platforms Inc., and its privacy controls allow users to limit posts to friends, groups or custom lists, which can make items invisible to others.

The notice also covers situations in which material has been removed from the platform, either by the user or by Facebook for violating policies, or when an account has been deactivated. For journalists, researchers and everyday users, the message highlights how digital content can disappear or become restricted without notice.

Understanding why material is unavailable can affect reporting, legal inquiries and personal archiving. We will provide more information as it becomes available.
