Toppers sweep Stillman in doubleheader
TUSCALOOSA, Ala. — Blue Mountain Christian University used strong pitching and timely hitting to sweep Stillman College in a doubleheader Saturday, beating the Tigers 11-0 in the opener and 12-1 in the nightcap.
In the first game the Toppers jumped ahead early, scoring seven runs in the second inning and adding insurance runs in the fourth and fifth. Aspen Teague led the offense with three RBIs and multiple hits. Maryn Macri went two-for-two with two RBIs, including a triple, while Kelsey Camp had two hits and an RBI and Rachel Rommel drove in two runs. BMCU also applied pressure on the base paths with multiple stolen bases.
On the mound in the opener, Bri Langley tossed a complete-game shutout, allowing two hits and striking out four to set the tone defensively for the day.
In the nightcap the Toppers continued to produce, scoring in several multi-run frames en route to a 12-1 victory. Bre Ramsey had two RBIs and multiple hits, Anna Harrison added two RBIs, and Gail Wisher recorded extra-base hits, including a triple. Pinch hitter Vaye Savage delivered a pivotal triple that produced three runs in the sixth inning. Aspen Teague, Karen Wisher and Chloe Shelton also contributed key hits as BMCU finished with 14 hits in the game. Jana Shaw allowed one run over six innings on the mound.
The sweep improved Blue Mountain Christian to 3-0 while Stillman fell to 0-3. The Toppers will host Williams Baptist College on Tuesday, Feb. 10, at 2 p.m., the school’s athletics department said. We will provide more information as it becomes available.
