Toppers sweep Bethel in midweek doubleheader
McKENZIE, Tenn. — Blue Mountain Christian University swept Bethel in a midweek road doubleheader Tuesday, winning 11-1 and 12-0, the school reported.
In the opener the Toppers scored in each of the first three innings to seize control. Maryn Macri drew a bases-loaded walk in the first to score Anna Harrison, and Blue Mountain added three runs in the second on an RBI walk by Mikaylah Fuqua and an RBI sacrifice fly by Aspen Teague. The Toppers added insurance with five runs in the sixth and seventh innings and finished with 12 hits.
Fuqua went 3-for-4 with two RBIs and two runs scored. Anna Harrison scored four runs and had two hits. Madison Montgomery earned the win, throwing a complete game while allowing one run on six hits with five strikeouts.
In game two Blue Mountain erupted for eight runs in the second inning. Lakyn Nichols started the outburst with a two-RBI triple and Bre Ramsey followed with an RBI double before Kelsey Camp delivered a four-RBI home run. Camp went 3-for-3 with four RBIs and two runs, and Neely Cooper tossed three scoreless innings with three strikeouts as Janna Shaw closed with two scoreless frames.
