Toppers split matches, finish strong with 7-0 sweep

LITTLE ROCK, Ark. — BMCU women’s tennis split a pair of matches Saturday, dropping the opener 0-7 to Texas A&M–Texarkana before sweeping John Brown University 7-0, the program said.

In the loss to Texas A&M–Texarkana, doubles play opened the match. Camila Mordiz and Eugenia Ramos lost 6-2 at No. 1, Lina Cetina and Lucia Rodriguez Garcia fell 6-3 at No. 2, and Kiersten Terris and Valeria Manquillo pushed their opponents to a tiebreaker before narrowly losing the breaker 7-4, the release said. Singles featured several competitive sets but produced no wins for the Toppers, with Mordiz losing 6-4, 6-0; Cetina 6-4, 6-2; Ramos 7-5, 6-1; Malyaporn 6-2, 6-3; and Garcia 6-3, 6-0.

BMCU rebounded emphatically against John Brown. Doubles wins by Mordiz and Ramos (6-2), Cetina and Garcia (6-4), and Malyaporn and Terris (6-3) set the tone, and singles followed with victories across the lineup: Mordiz 6-2, 6-1; Cetina 6-3, 6-2; Ramos 6-0, 6-2; Malyaporn 6-3, 6-4; Garcia 6-1, 6-2; and Terris 6-2, 7-6, the release said.

The split highlighted both the challenges the Toppers faced and the depth they showed in the afternoon sweep. The team said the matches provided valuable experience as it continues its season. We will provide more information as it becomes available.
