Toppers split doubleheader, win nightcap 16-0

Blue Mountain Christian split a doubleheader Tuesday at Topper Field in Blue Mountain, Mississippi, falling 10-4 in the opener before routing Rust 16-0 in a five-inning run-rule nightcap.

In the opener the Toppers collected nine hits but could not overcome Rust, which finished with 12 hits and capitalized in key innings to secure the 10-4 victory. Ross Polizzi led Blue Mountain with three hits and three runs, Trace Roy had two hits and two RBIs, Garret Lance hit a solo home run and Cody Pressly recorded two hits.

Blue Mountain responded emphatically in the nightcap, scoring in four of five innings and breaking the game open with an explosive fifth. Pressly hit three home runs and drove in five runs, Polizzi added a home run and two RBIs, and Reise Thomas had two hits and scored three times. Jarret Morris and Spencer Wilson also contributed offensively.

On the mound JD Klug delivered a complete-game shutout, striking out 12 while allowing four hits and no runs to anchor the Toppers’ dominant performance. Blue Mountain Christian travels to Williams Baptist College on Feb. 12. We will provide more information as it becomes available.
