Toppers score 19, beat Brewton-Parker 19-8 in series finale

MOUNT VERNON, Ga. — Blue Mountain Christian scored 19 runs Saturday to defeat Brewton-Parker Christian 19-8 and close out the SSAC series, the school’s athletics department reported.

The Toppers broke the game open with multiple big innings, consistently pressuring Brewton-Parker pitching and capitalizing on scoring opportunities with timely hits and aggressive baserunning. Blue Mountain Christian finished with 17 hits and 4 home runs.

Jake Meilstrup led the offense, going 2-for-6 with three runs, six RBIs, a triple and a home run. Jacob Bryant was 3-for-6 with two runs, three RBIs, a double and a home run. Gates Gerhart went 3-for-4 with three runs, three RBIs, two walks and a stolen base. Garret Lance added a 2-for-5 effort with three runs, two RBIs and a home run. Additional contributions came from Gavin Foley (2-for-5), Cody Presley (2-for-6) and Ross Polizzi, Jarrett Morris and Yaidel Perez, who drove in runs and reached base to support the rally.

On the mound, Benji Webb earned the win, working 6.1 innings while allowing 11 hits, eight runs (four earned), one walk and striking out seven. Christian Manness relieved and worked 2.2 scoreless innings, allowing one hit and striking out one to finish the game. Blue Mountain Christian is scheduled to play at the University of Mobile on March 13. This is a developing story and will be updated as more details emerge.
