Toppers lose doubleheader to Mobile, 12-2 and 12-6
Mobile, Ala. — Blue Mountain Christian University dropped both games of a Friday doubleheader to the University of Mobile in Southern States Athletic Conference play, losing 12-2 in a scheduled seven-inning opener and 12-6 in the nine-inning nightcap.
In the opener the Toppers struck first in the top of the third when Ross Polizzi drove in Gavin Foley with an RBI single to give Blue Mountain an early 1-0 lead. Mobile answered with a five-run bottom half of the third, then added four runs in the fourth and three in the sixth to pull away.
Blue Mountain Christian finished with five hits in the first game. Polizzi led the Toppers with an RBI hit, and Gavin Foley, Yaidel Perez, Trace Roy and Cody Presley also recorded hits. Jake Meilstrup added an RBI on a sacrifice fly for the Toppers’ second run.
The Toppers showed more offensive consistency in the nightcap, scoring six runs on multiple hits across the lineup, but Mobile used several multi-run innings to maintain separation. Presley, Perez and Foley again helped lead Blue Mountain’s offense, and the Toppers received RBIs from multiple contributors as they battled through nine innings.
Blue Mountain Christian will look to respond in the series finale Saturday at University of Mobile, with first pitch scheduled for 1 p.m. We will provide more information as it becomes available.
