Toppers fall twice to No. 2 Georgia Gwinnett in Friday doubleheader

Blue Mountain Christian lost both games of a Friday doubleheader to No. 2 Georgia Gwinnett in Blue Mountain, Mississippi, the school said. The Toppers showed resilience and produced timely offense but could not overcome one of the NAIA’s top programs.

In the opener, Georgia Gwinnett built an early lead while Blue Mountain Christian finished with nine hits and persistent pressure on the base paths. Jake Meilstrup went 2-for-3 with two stolen bases and a run scored. Ross Polizzi drove in the Toppers’ first run with an RBI single in the sixth, and Trace Roy scored in the seventh.

On the mound in game one, Benji Webb worked four innings and recorded three strikeouts, and Caden Moore added a scoreless inning in relief to keep the game close late. In the nightcap, the Toppers produced one of their most productive offensive games of the season, totaliing 10 hits and scoring in four innings while trading runs with Georgia Gwinnett.

Meilstrup delivered a standout night in game two, finishing 3-for-4 with a double, a triple and five RBIs. Cody Presley had two hits and scored a run, and Reise Thomas, Ethan Hirons and Yaidel Perez each drove in runs. Pitchers Chip Harris, Judson Griffin and Jesse Hancock combined to cover the game, with Hancock providing steady relief late. The doubleheader served as an early-season test as Blue Mountain Christian continues to build experience and momentum.
