Toppers erupt for 18, rout United States Sports University 18-2
Blue Mountain, Miss. — Blue Mountain Christian erupted for 18 runs in an 18-2 victory over United States Sports University on Thursday, overcoming an early two-run homer and taking control for a decisive win.
United States Sports University struck first with a two-run blast in the top of the first inning, but the Toppers answered in the bottom half to tie the game 2-2. Blue Mountain Christian broke the game open in the second and built momentum before a massive fourth inning produced double-digit runs, putting the contest out of reach.
Blue Mountain Christian said several players turned in standout offensive performances. Maryn Macri drove in four RBIs and Kelsey Camp matched her with four RBIs. Chloe Shelton added three RBIs, and Anna Harrison scored three runs, recorded multiple hits and stole two bases as the lineup applied constant pressure.
Madison Montgomery earned the win, working five innings and limiting United States Sports University to two runs on two hits, the school said. After surrendering the early blast, the Toppers scored 16 unanswered runs en route to a run-rule victory in one of their most complete performances of the young season. Blue Mountain Christian is scheduled to host United States Sports University again Friday, Feb. 13, at 1 p.m.
