Teague delivers walk-off, lifts Toppers to doubleheader sweep
BLUE MOUNTAIN, Miss. — Aspen Teague delivered a walk-off RBI single in the seventh inning Saturday as Blue Mountain Christian University completed a Southern States Athletic Conference doubleheader sweep of Brewton-Parker, the university said. The Toppers took the opener 7-5 before edging Brewton-Parker 4-3 in the nightcap.
In Game 1, Blue Mountain used a big second inning to seize control. After Brewton-Parker scored in the first, Vaye Savage drove in a run with a single and Mikaylah Fuqua followed with a three-run triple to put the Toppers up 5-1. Brewton-Parker trimmed the lead but Blue Mountain added insurance runs on an RBI single by Fuqua in the fourth and an RBI single by Teague in the sixth. The Toppers finished with 11 hits; Fuqua went 2-for-4 with four RBIs.
Game 2 featured a comeback. Kelsey Camp opened the scoring for Blue Mountain with a sacrifice fly in the first, but Brewton-Parker answered with three runs to build a 3-1 lead. Neely Barrier drove in a run in the fifth, and Gail Wisher scored on a wild pitch in the sixth to tie the game. In the bottom of the seventh, Teague lined a walk-off single through the right side to score Mikaylah Fuqua and complete the sweep, the university said.
On the mound, Janna Shaw worked 5.1 innings in the opener, allowing five runs, three earned, while Madison Montgomery closed with 1.2 scoreless innings for the save. In the nightcap, Bri Langley started and allowed three runs over four innings; Montgomery earned the win in relief with three strong innings, allowing one hit and striking out three. The sweep gives Blue Mountain momentum as it continues SSAC play; the Toppers travel to Point University on March 27, the release said.
