Shepherd wins steeplechase as Toppers compete at Rhodes Invitational

MEMPHIS, Tennessee — Ella Shepherd won the women’s 3,000-meter steeplechase for Blue Mountain Christian University this weekend, crossing the line in 12:18.57, the school said.

Blue Mountain recorded several other top-10 finishes against a competitive field that included NAIA, NCAA Division II and Division III programs. Kaedyn Wilson placed eighth in the women’s 5,000 meters in 19:28.10. The women’s 4×800-meter relay of Ruth Hutchinson, Jorja Kate Mooneyhan, Wilson and Shepherd finished fourth in 10:19.72.

Mooneyhan placed tenth in the 800 in 2:37.13 and ran in the mile, finishing 18th. Hutchinson was 13th in the 800 (2:44.50) and 21st in the mile. Leah Montgomery also ran the mile for Blue Mountain, posting a time of 6:59.09, the school said.

On the men’s side, Jonah Barnhardt led the Toppers in the 5,000 with a seventh-place time of 15:32.44. Braxton Enzor placed fourth in the men’s 3,000-meter steeplechase in 12:03.67. The men’s 4×800 relay of Lukas Dykes, Samuel Hopper, JaKarien Perry and Barnhardt finished fifth in 8:36.51, and Jared Mooneyhan cleared 3.20 meters for fifth in the pole vault, Blue Mountain reported.

Blue Mountain said the Toppers will look to build on these performances as they continue their outdoor season. We will provide more information as it becomes available.
