Ramsey walk-off lifts Toppers to sweep No. 19 UT Southern

BLUE MOUNTAIN, Mississippi — Blue Mountain Christian University swept No. 19 UT Southern on Saturday at the BMCU Sportsplex, capped by a walk-off win in extra innings and a program record for most wins in a single season, the school said.

In the opener, the Toppers rallied for a 6-5 walk-off victory in eight innings. Aspen Teague delivered two key RBIs, including the game-tying hit in the seventh inning, and Bre Ramsey sealed the win with a walk-off double to left-center. Anna Harrison added two RBIs, and Ramsey and Teague each had two hits as Blue Mountain totaled 10 hits.

Madison Montgomery earned the win with a complete-game outing, tossing eight innings and allowing four earned runs. Montgomery remained in the circle after taking a line drive off her body midway through the game, the school said.

The Toppers carried the momentum into the nightcap, defeating UT Southern 7-2. Blue Mountain built an early lead and broke the game open in the fifth inning on Ramsey’s three-run triple. Ramsey finished 2-for-3 with four RBIs. Aspen Teague and Mikaylah Fuqua each recorded multiple hits as the team had nine hits in the game.

Neely Cooper tossed a complete game in the second contest, allowing two runs, one earned, on five hits and striking out seven. With the sweep, Blue Mountain Christian recorded a signature victory over a ranked opponent and set a new single-season wins record for the program, the school said.

The Toppers next play at Christian Brothers on April 14 at 3 p.m. We will provide more information as it becomes available.
