Nordstrom named SSAC men’s golfer of week after record 65
MONTGOMERY, Ala. — Blue Mountain Christian University sophomore Alex Nordstrom has been named the Southern States Athletic Conference Men’s Golfer of the Week after a record-setting performance at the Carey Collegiate, the school announced Tuesday.
Nordstrom finished third individually in a strong field and fired a program-record 65 in the final round, six strokes under par on the par-71 course. His rounds of 70-71-65 produced a 206 total and a seven-under-par finish.
The low round stands as the lowest score ever recorded by a Blue Mountain Christian men’s golfer and came against multiple nationally ranked teams, showcasing Nordstrom’s ability to compete among some of the NAIA’s top players.
Head coach Kevin Barefield praised Nordstrom’s preparation and composure. “Alex has been putting himself in position for a round like this all season,” Barefield said. “To see him break the program record with a 65 in a field like this shows the kind of player he is becoming. I’m really proud of his focus and the way he competed from start to finish.”
