Cooper named SSAC pitcher of week after no-hitter

MONTGOMERY, Ala. — Blue Mountain Christian pitcher Neely Cooper was named Southern States Athletic Conference Softball Pitcher of the Week after throwing a no-hitter against Thomas University on Monday.

Cooper worked five hitless innings, allowed one walk and struck out five batters to earn the win and improve to 5-1 on the season. She faced 19 batters, threw 70 pitches and recorded 10 groundouts to help keep Thomas from generating offensive momentum.

Cooper’s command and efficiency stood out as she limited baserunners and relied on her defense to complete outs. Blue Mountain Christian head coach Matt Brunet praised her character and role with the program, saying, “Nobody deserves this honor more than Neely Cooper. She has been the ultimate team player over the past two years. Her teammates love her and trust her in big moments. She loves to compete and thrives when pressure is on. We are very proud of her and honored that she pitches for BMCU.”

The honor highlights another strong outing for the Toppers as they continue conference play. The Southern States Athletic Conference comprises small colleges in the Southeast, and weekly awards recognize standout performances. We will provide more information as it becomes available.
