Blue Mountain falls to UT Southern in 10th

BLUE MOUNTAIN, Miss. — Blue Mountain Christian University lost to University of Tennessee Southern 8-3 in 10 innings Friday, dropping the SSAC series opener after UT Southern scored a five-run top of the 10th inning, the school reported.

UT Southern built an early 3-0 lead before Blue Mountain rallied. The Toppers scored in the fifth to cut the deficit to 3-1, continued to chip away and eventually tied the game to force extra innings, the release said.

Blue Mountain collected eight hits. Yaidel Perez led the offense, going 2-for-3 with a run and a walk. Jake Meilstrup added a hit, scored a run, drew a walk and stole a base. Jarrett Morris, Trace Roy and Hugh Parsons each drove in a run, and Jacob Bryant and Cody Presley also registered hits, the school said.

On the mound, Chip Harris started and threw five innings, allowing three runs and striking out four. Christian Maness worked 4.1 innings of relief with four strikeouts, and Jesse Hancock also saw action from the bullpen.

Blue Mountain will try to bounce back when the series continues Saturday at 1 p.m. We will provide more information as it becomes available.
