Blue Mountain falls to Tennessee Southern in close SSAC game

BLUE MOUNTAIN, Miss. — The Blue Mountain Christian University men’s basketball team fought hard but lost to Tennessee Southern 67-60 in a Southern States Athletic Conference game Saturday afternoon.

The Toppers showed energy early but trailed the Owls for much of the first half. Tennessee Southern built a lead before Blue Mountain responded with increased intensity in the second half, narrowing the gap and keeping the game competitive until the final minutes.

Blue Mountain pressed on both offense and defense, forcing turnovers and creating scoring chances. However, Tennessee Southern made key plays down the stretch to secure the victory.

Jonathan Baker led Blue Mountain with 11 points. Gavin Shannon added 10 points off the bench, while Michael Hill scored seven and hit a crucial third-quarter three-pointer. Jalen Boyd-Savage contributed six points.

The Toppers’ defense caused numerous turnovers and battled inside against a balanced Tennessee Southern attack but could not overcome the early deficit. Blue Mountain now prepares for its next game at Life University on Jan. 15.

The team aims to carry the resilience and determination displayed in Saturday’s contest into conference play.
