Blue Mountain Christian posts strong showing at Coastal Georgia Winter Invite

ST. SIMONS ISLAND, Ga. — Blue Mountain Christian College finished fourth of 17 teams this week at the Coastal Georgia Winter Invite, competing on a par-72 layout that stretched 7,014 yards against one of the NAIA’s strongest fields.

The tournament featured several nationally ranked programs, including No. 2 Reinhardt, No. 8 Ave Maria, No. 12 Coastal Georgia, No. 14 OUAZ and No. 15 Webber International.

The Toppers were led by Simon Meiby, who tied for fifth individually after rounds of 73-75-70 for a three-round total of 218. Alex Nordstrom tied for seventh at 220 with rounds of 72-72-76, and Acen Lambert tied for 13th at 222 after carding a second-round 69.

Damil Ataullah tied for 27th at 226 (71-75-80) and Cobey Riddle tied for 57th at 234 (79-75-80). Head Coach Kevin Barefield praised the team’s performance. “I’m really proud of how our guys competed from start to finish,” Barefield said. “This was a strong, nationally ranked field on a championship-caliber course, and we proved we can play with anyone. Simon closing with a 70 was big-time, and having multiple guys in the top 15 shows the depth we’re building. This is the standard we want to compete at.”

The results bolster Blue Mountain Christian’s standing among competitive NAIA programs as the season continues. The team will carry the experience from the Coastal Georgia event into upcoming tournaments.
