Blue Mountain Christian falls to Cumberland, Christian Brothers

MEMPHIS, Tenn. — Blue Mountain Christian University lost both matches Friday in Memphis, dropping a morning meeting with Cumberland, Tenn., 1-6, and falling to NCAA member Christian Brothers 0-7 in the afternoon, the school reported.

In the first match, Cumberland claimed the doubles point, but Adriaan Engelbrecht and Kevin Kotze opened the day for the Toppers with a 6-3 doubles victory on Court 1. Engelbrecht followed with Blue Mountain Christian’s lone singles victory, defeating his opponent 6-2, 6-2 on Singles Court 1.

Kotze, Pablo Cruz, Luis Lainer, Shriraam Anbanantan and Craig Blevins were defeated on their respective singles courts in the first match. In the afternoon session, Christian Brothers captured the doubles point and swept the singles for a 7-0 final.

Maj Langerholz and Shriraam Anbanantan dropped a close doubles match, 3-6. Engelbrecht lost on Court 1, 5-7, 0-6, and Lainer fell 1-6, 5-7 on Court 4. Blue Mountain Christian is 2-1 and will play Missouri Baptist on Friday, Feb. 27, at 2 p.m. CT in Little Rock, Arkansas.
