Barnhardt, Shepherd lead Toppers at Bryan Phillips Invitational
Searcy, Arkansas — The Toppers turned in an all-around performance at the Bryan Phillips Invitational, led by Jonah Barnhardt and Ella Shepherd. Barnhardt captured a first-place finish in the mens 5,000 meters in 15:51.83, and Shepherd won the womens 3,000-meter steeplechase in 11:57.70, the team said.
Barnhardts victory set the tone as the Toppers placed five runners inside the top 15 of the mens 5,000. Erick Flores finished seventh, Noah Harrington was 10th, JT Draper took 11th and Lelan Boulden was 14th. On the womens side, Kaedyn Wilson earned a second-place finish in the 5,000 in 19:12.44, and Shepherd added a sixth-place showing in that event. Lauren Paul placed 13th in the womens 5,000.
Middle-distance efforts produced additional depth. In the mens 1,500, Lukas Dykes led the group with a 15th-place finish, and Dykes was 19th in the mens 800. JaKarien Perry finished 18th in the 800, with Samuel Hopper also competing. For the women, Jorja Kate Mooneyhan and Ruth Hutchinson ran both the 1,500 and 800, with Mooneyhan leading the pair in each race; Lead Montgomery added depth in the 1,500.
In other events, Braxton Enzor finished eighth in the mens 3,000 steeplechase in 11:32.29, and Abby Laney placed 18th in the womens discus at 27.59 meters. The results highlighted individual victories and team depth, particularly in distance events, as the Toppers progress through the season.
