Barnhardt, Shepherd lead Toppers at Bryan Phillips Invitational
The Toppers posted multiple victories and deep distance showings at the Bryan Phillips Invitational in Searcy, Arkansas, with Jonah Barnhardt winning the men’s 5,000 meters in 15:51.83 and Ella Shepherd taking the women’s 3,000-meter steeplechase in 11:57.70, according to a team release.
The men’s 5,000 also featured strong depth, with five Toppers finishing inside the top 15. Erick Flores finished seventh, Noah Harrington 10th, JT Draper 11th and Lelan Boulden 14th.
On the women’s side, Kaedyn Wilson finished second in the 5,000 in 19:12.44 and Shepherd added a sixth-place finish in the same event in 19:46.22. Lauren Paul placed 13th in the women’s 5,000.
Middle-distance competitors also contributed. Lukas Dykes led the men in the 1,500 with a 15th-place finish in 4:10.20 and ran 19th in the 800. Ja’Karien Perry finished 18th in the men’s 800 and Samuel Hopper placed 27th. For the women, Jorja Kate Mooneyhan and Ruth Hutchinson competed in both the 1,500 and 800, with Mooneyhan leading the pair in each race.
In field events, Abby Laney placed 18th in the women’s discus with a mark of 27.59 meters. Overall, the Toppers combined individual victories with depth across distance and middle-distance events, signaling continued progress as the season moves forward.
