Reeves says Tenn-Tom waterway fuels Mississippi economic momentum
Mississippi Gov. Tate Reeves said in a Facebook post that the state is experiencing historic economic development momentum and that access to the Tennessee-Tombigbee Waterway is a key part of that success.
Reeves called the Tennessee-Tombigbee Waterway, known as the Tenn-Tom, and the larger M-65 Marine Highway corridor important because they provide industries with efficient, dependable connections to markets across the country and around the world, he said.
As chairman, Reeves said he looks forward to working with partner states to strengthen the corridor, support continued job creation and ensure long-term competitiveness for American industry. Improving inland waterway links can lower transportation costs for manufacturers, farmers and shippers and can make states more attractive to new investment.
The Tennessee-Tombigbee Waterway has long been cited by regional leaders as a strategic freight route for the interior South. Officials and business groups have pushed for upgrades to locks, ports and related infrastructure to sustain growth. We will provide more information as it becomes available.
