U.S. marshals arrest Indianola man wanted in shooting of grandmother, 7-year-old
INDIANOLA — U.S. Marshals on Monday arrested a 22-year-old man wanted in a February shooting that seriously injured a grandmother and her 7-year-old grandson, authorities said.
Delvin Jones was taken into custody March 2 at a residence in the 100 block of Jordan Drive in Indianola, the U.S. Marshals Service said. Jones was wanted by the Indianola Police Department on a charge of aggravated assault with a deadly weapon likely to produce death or serious bodily harm, authorities said.
The Indianola Police Department said the shooting occurred Feb. 12 on West Percy Street. A 46-year-old woman and her 7-year-old grandson were shot and seriously injured after their vehicle was struck by multiple rounds, police said. A 2-year-old child who was also inside the vehicle was not injured, investigators said. A warrant for Jones’ arrest was issued Feb. 19.
Deputy U.S. marshals assigned to the Gulf Coast Regional Fugitive Task Force tracked Jones to the Jordan Drive address, surrounded the residence with assistance from the Indianola Police Department and took him into custody without incident, officials said. A Glock pistol was recovered during the arrest and seized as possible evidence, officials said.
The Gulf Coast Regional Fugitive Task Force, established in 2006, partners with more than 60 federal, state and local agencies and has apprehended more than 70,000 fugitives since its inception, the U.S. Marshals Service said.
