Preparedness Week urges mobile home residents to arrange safe evacuations
Organizers of Preparedness Week urged residents of mobile and manufactured homes to identify safe evacuation locations ahead of severe weather in a Facebook post. The post stressed that evacuation plans should be in place before storms hit and before warnings are issued.
“If you live in a mobile or manufactured home, now is the time to make sure you have a safe place to evacuate before storms hit and warnings are issued,” the Facebook post said. The post included the hashtag #MSwx.
Mobile and manufactured homes can be more vulnerable to high winds, flying debris and flooding than permanent structures, which is why emergency officials frequently advise occupants to plan to move to more substantial shelter during severe storms. Preparedness campaigns like Preparedness Week aim to remind residents to take those steps early.
Officials recommend identifying a nearby sturdy shelter, planning routes and keeping an emergency kit and communications plan ready. We will provide more information as it becomes available.
