NWS warns enhanced severe weather risk for Mississippi
The National Weather Service said it is forecasting an enhanced risk of severe weather for Mississippi on Sunday evening, March 15, 2026. The agency said the highest threat is in north and central Mississippi, but the entire state could see severe storms.
The agency said tornadoes are possible and damaging winds could reach up to 70 mph. The advisory warns of severe thunderstorms that could produce widespread wind damage and dangerous conditions for travel and outdoor activities.
Enhanced risk is a designation used in convective outlooks to indicate a greater likelihood of organized severe storms than marginal or slight categories, according to the Storm Prediction Center, which issues outlooks used by the National Weather Service. Such a risk can signal more numerous or intense storms across an area.
The National Weather Service advised residents to stay weather aware, have multiple ways to receive alerts and know their safe place, such as an interior room or basement. Officials also recommend securing loose outdoor items and monitoring local forecasts and guidance. We will provide more information as it becomes available.
