NWS Jackson upgrades parts of state to slight severe-storm risk Saturday
The National Weather Service in Jackson upgraded parts of the state to a Slight Risk for severe storms on Saturday, March 7, 2026, warning residents to prepare for damaging winds, quarter-sized hail and the possibility of a tornado.
The office said the threat is expected to shift from north to south through the day and into the evening, and that everyone in the affected area has the potential to see severe weather.
Slight Risk is a designation used by the weather service to indicate that scattered severe storms are possible. Such storms can produce strong, damaging winds and hail that may lead to property damage, power outages and hazardous travel conditions.
Officials urged residents to monitor forecasts and follow local meteorologists and emergency management agencies for timing and location updates. Basic preparedness steps include securing outdoor objects, charging mobile devices and identifying a safe interior location to shelter if conditions deteriorate.
We will provide more information as it becomes available.
