Mississippi responds to Carroll County wildfire

State officials said a wildfire in Carroll County has burned about 3,000 acres and is 40% contained, according to a Facebook post from state authorities. No injuries have been reported, officials said.

The Mississippi Forestry Commission, Carroll County Fire Services and the Mississippi Emergency Management Agency (MEMA) are assisting in the response, officials said. The cause of the fire remains under investigation.

Evacuations have been ordered along County Roads 218, 144 and 163, and officials warned additional roads may be evacuated as necessary. Firefighters have built firebreaks around inhabited areas and a firefighting helicopter has been deployed to support containment efforts.

State officials said they will continue to deploy additional resources as needed. The Facebook post asked residents to keep firefighters and emergency responders in their thoughts. This is a developing story and will be updated as more details emerge.
