MEMA, FEMA meet Habitat for Humanity in Tupelo to plan storm recovery

Team members from the Mississippi Emergency Management Agency and the Federal Emergency Management Agency met with Habitat for Humanity organizers in the Tupelo area to explore future partnerships focused on helping storm-affected families return to safe, stable housing, MEMA said in a Facebook post.

MEMA is Mississippi’s state agency that coordinates disaster preparedness, response and recovery. FEMA is the federal agency that supports state and local response to disasters. Habitat for Humanity is a nonprofit that builds and repairs homes for low-income families and often partners with government and volunteer organizations after severe weather.

The agencies said the talks aim to strengthen recovery and rebuilding efforts by exploring ways to coordinate resources, technical assistance and volunteer support. Stable housing is a critical step in long-term community recovery after storms, and partnerships between federal, state and nonprofit groups can speed repair and rebuilding work.

Details about timelines, funding or specific projects were not provided in the post. We will provide more information as it becomes available.
