Law enforcement agency welcomes Spring 2026 PIO interns from University of Mississippi
A law enforcement agency is welcoming two Spring 2026 public information officer interns from the University of Mississippi School of Journalism and New Media, the agency said in a Facebook post.
Rachel Phillips is returning after interning with the agency last summer and fall, and Dacey Leonard joins the agency for the first time, the post said. The agency said the interns will work on social media and media relations and will gain a hands-on look at what it means to be a public information officer for a law enforcement organization.
Public information officers handle media inquiries, prepare news releases, manage social media accounts and assist with community outreach. Those responsibilities give agencies a channel to share information quickly with the public and to coordinate with reporters during breaking incidents.
The University of Mississippi School of Journalism and New Media is the university’s journalism program and trains students in reporting, digital media and communications. Internships such as these are a common way for journalism students to gain practical experience in media relations and public-sector communications.
The agency posted the announcement on Facebook. We will provide more information as it becomes available.
