Community thanks public safety telecommunicators during weeklong observance

A Facebook post this week urged residents to recognize Public Safety Telecommunicators Week and to thank the men and women who answer emergency calls day and night, calling them “first first responders” who serve as a vital link between the community and emergency services, the post said.

The post said telecommunicators provide calm voices, quick thinking and unwavering dedication during some of a caller’s worst moments. It praised their professionalism, compassion and ability to remain composed under pressure and encouraged the public to join in expressing gratitude for their service and sacrifice.

National Public Safety Telecommunicators Week, often abbreviated NPSTW, is an annual observance that recognizes 911 telecommunicators and dispatchers who handle emergency calls, dispatch units and provide life-saving instructions while responders are en route. Advocates and agencies across the country mark the week to highlight the role dispatchers play in public safety.

The Facebook post invited community members to join in saying thank you to dispatchers for their commitment to keeping neighborhoods safe. We will provide more information as it becomes available.
