Cold front brings wind, cooler temperatures; freeze possible Tuesday
A cold front moving into the region will bring windy conditions and cooler temperatures next week, with a freeze possible Tuesday morning, Darkhorse Press reported. The change follows a stretch of record warmth that has prompted early plant growth in some areas.
Forecasters say the timing could be significant because vegetation that broke dormancy during the recent warm spell may be vulnerable to late freezes. Damage to buds and early blossoms can affect ornamental plants, home gardens and, in some regions, agricultural crops if protective steps are not taken.
Cold fronts typically bring a shift in wind direction, falling temperatures and a drier air mass. Those conditions can lower overnight temperatures quickly and increase the risk of frost where soils and plants have not yet acclimated to colder weather.
Residents and gardeners are advised to monitor local forecasts and take standard precautions for sensitive plants, such as covering vulnerable vegetation overnight. We will provide more information as it becomes available.
