Cold burst brings below-freezing temperatures overnight
A Facebook post warned that temperatures will drop below freezing tonight, March 16, into early March 17, urging residents to prepare for a brief cold snap.
The post highlighted the “four P’s of preparedness”: people, pets, pipes and plants. It advised checking on vulnerable friends, family members and neighbors; bringing pets indoors and ensuring they have shelter, food and fresh water; insulating pipes and leaving water dripping during freezing temperatures; and covering outdoor plants or bringing them inside.
Freezing temperatures can damage unprotected plumbing, harm outdoor vegetation and create hazards for elderly or medically vulnerable people and pets. Officials and emergency management agencies routinely recommend similar precautions during brief freezes to reduce property damage and health risks, especially in areas unaccustomed to cold snaps.
Residents should review home and pet preparations and check local forecasts for updates. We will provide more information as it becomes available.
