Webber Jones named Mississippi Association of Educators executive director

Feb. 1, 2025-The Mississippi Association of Educators (MAE) has announced the appointment of Erica Webber Jones as its new Executive Director. With a distinguished career in education and advocacy, Erica Webber Jones brings a wealth of experience and a deep commitment to advancing public education and supporting educators across the state of Mississippi.
“We are thrilled to welcome Erica Webber Jones to the Mississippi Association of Educators,” said MAE Interim President Dr. Darein Spann, “Her leadership, vision, and dedication to public education will be instrumental in guiding our organization forward as we continue to advocate for fully funded schools, equitable opportunities for all students, and the support our educators need to thrive.”
As a seasoned leader and advocate, she has spent over 25 years championing the needs of students, educators, and communities. Prior to joining MAE as the Executive Director, she served as State President for MAE, making a lasting impact on educational policy and practice.
“I am honored to serve as the Executive Director of the Mississippi Association of Educators,” said Erica Webber Jones. “I look forward to working alongside our incredible educators, staff, and community partners to ensure every student in Mississippi has access to a high-quality education and that our educators have the resources and support they need to succeed.”
In her new role, she will lead MAE’s efforts to advocate for public education, provide professional development opportunities for educators, and strengthen partnerships that benefit students and schools across the state.
The Mississippi Association of Educators (MAE) also announced Dr. Darein Spann as the organization’s President, following Webber Jones’ transition to Executive Director.
Dr. Spann, a dedicated education advocate and leader, has been a steadfast voice for educators, students, and public schools across Mississippi. With years of experience in education policy and classroom instruction, he brings a deep understanding of the challenges and opportunities facing educators today.
“I am honored to step into this role and continue MAE’s mission of advocating for fully funded public schools, fair wages for educators, and equitable opportunities for all students,” said Dr. Spann. “Together, we will build on the strong foundation set before us and push forward for a brighter future in Mississippi education.”
As President, Dr. Spann will lead MAE’s ongoing efforts to support educators, engage communities, and advocate for policies that strengthen public education across the state.
